On Saturday, May 16th, Join us for the next event in our series of History Weekends.
10am – Take a tour with the Hancock Historical Society through Pine Ridge Cemetery-Hancock’s oldest and most interesting cemetery. John Hayes, Historical Society member and cemetery trustee, accompanied by Sandra Weston and Ken Chester, will focus on the courageous soldiers that fought in the French and Indian Wars through the Civil War as well as other notable and famous citizens of Hancock.
6pm – For dinner at the Inn on Saturday, join Glenn Knoblock, historian and author of twelve books, for a discussion of the rich variety of gravestones found in our own neighborhoods. These stones tell longforgotten stories of historical events, such as the Great Awakening, the Throat Distemper epidemic, and the American Revolution. Find out more about these deeply personal works of art and the craftsmen who carved them, and learn how to read the stone “pages” that give insight into the vast genealogical book of New Hampshire.
