It seems as though many of our guests are interested in what we used to do before becoming innkeepers. I wish I could tell a fascinating story of being a double agent for the CIA (the spy service not the culinary school!!) but prior to becoming the innkeeper at the Hancock Inn in 2001 I was ……..an innkeeper!!! Now without boring you, it is a little more involved than that. My parents had hotels and restaurants when I was growing up so I worked various jobs in the restaurant while attending high school and college. After college I went to graduate school and eventually received my Ph.D. in aquatic biology of all things. Then I taught and did research at a university for about ten years before buying an inn in California and going back into the family business so to speak. Now the reason for my spilling the beans about my previous life was to provide some news on some of the new activities we have planned for the Inn this summer. I envy innkeepers that had a previous career in marketing or something like that as they can use their prior experiences in their innkeeping pursuits. It’s kind of hard to do that when your previous career was counting bugs and fish. So as part of our summer activities, I am going to lead our guests who are interested in such things on a field trip around the Hancock area visiting various streams, ponds and lakes to learn a little bit of biology and more importantly, have some fun splashing around in the water. We will be doing the field trips one Saturday each month. We will also be offering some cooking classes as well as having local artisans doing classes on various crafty things.
