“Ice out” contests are legion in “ice in” parts of the world. But, here in Hancock, our contest to pick the date and time the ice goes out in Norway Pond is supported by the engineering and technical marvelousness of Richard Warner and Marc Spinale who have a web site now that tracks the temperature of the ice in real time with sensors that transmit data via solar powered radio technology traveling through the thin (cold) air, undaunted by the wind and snow, or even night time. It never sleeps. Think Voyager.
Right now the temperature of the ice is 27.4 F.
