Welcome to the Rufus Porter Room at the Hancock Inn!
This room is named after the most famous itinerant muralist in New England. Rufus Porter lived from 1792 until 1884. The Rufus Porter Room still has his original murals, circa 1825. During his life he was a muralist, an inventor, and a journalist. He is best known for the murals he painted while traveling throughout New England and the south.
We are fortunate to have one of his original murals (painted in 1825) in the bedroom of this room.
