best of new england award

The Editors of New England’s magazine of record, Yankee, have recognized The Hancock Inn for having the Best Historic Vibe in their 2019 Editor’s Choice Award issue, which is out now.

We’re delighted by “Vibe.” It may be that we’ve shared this story in this space before, but years ago a regular guest, who happens to be from Germany, was found standing alone in our reception space, probably sometime after dinner service, and when asked if he required assistance he offered, “It’s impossible that the spirits of so many travelers over the course of 200 years aren’t here, present in this Inn.” (He may have said “wonderful inn,” but we won’t gild the point.)

We are asked regularly if The Hancock Inn is haunted. We respond with that story. It’s not haunted, but it has vibe. In quiet moments it will make you look up from what you’re doing and in busy moments, when the party is in full swing, it will make you smile.

On behalf of all of us through the ages, thank you Yankee!
