This dessert drink was conceived by Joe Sheridan, a head chef in Foynes, Ireland after a group of Americans disembarked from a Pan Am flying boat on a miserable winter evening in the 1940's. Sheridan added whisky to the coffee to warm the passengers and after they asked if they were being served Brazilian coffee, he told them it was an "Irish Coffee."
